When it appeared there were not enough candidates for ECR board, I was happy to be invited to run. I know I am not particularly well-suited to office -- I'm the original "Mr. Inside," better at advising behind the scenes than dealing with large numbers of people -- but since I seemed to be needed and the current board had recruited me, it looked like a good idea.

Well, a few missteps later, there were four candidates for three positions, and each of the three other candidates were attractive for good reasons. The board needed a woman, someone experienced in nonprofit work, and a well-known and popular dancer who has been a club member for a long time; it seemed likely I would be odd man out, and so it came to pass.

I'd like to thank all the little people who voted for me... :-)

I would really be hurt if I had campaigned for the office, but I'm secretly happy not to be on the hook for the many meetings and default responsibilities of a board member.

I'm quite unhappy that the election worked out this way. Yes, there are other qualified people, but you are just as qualified (if not more so). I was looking forward to working with you.

If you feel so inclined, perhaps you can work on the upcoming convention…

But now I can go into a big dramatic snit, screw around with everyone, criticise everything the new board does, and not lift a finger to help, like everybody else. ;-)
