sfbear79 posted this link to short bios of some Golden Gate suicides. I was sobbing after getting through about two of them. So sad, especially if you can remember having an urge in that direction.
Which prompted me to dig up the old R.E.M. video of "Everybody Hurts." [warning: the video starts with an inappropriate advert]
The stories are touching, aren't they? The R.E.M. video is a good metaphor for how depression and loneliness feel. One of the lines of the song, “Take comfort in your friends,” is almost always good advice.
My big thought about Les's post was that I know he's been having some tough times lately and I wished I could comment right there to remind him I care about him. So I sent him email.
Thanks for sharing that. I'm not surprised the Golden Gate is a popular place for suicides and after reading some of the bios, they made me think. The people seemed to be doing great, but as you read, you see some signs things aren't as they seem, and they just go and do just that, jump of the bridge.
While I've never actually thought of suicide in any great way, I've had a couple of fleeting moments where the thought did come about.
I'm very well familiar with the REM song, but never had seen the video. Thanks for sharing it.
I like that song, but just like the whole album btw.
This cross-posting was taken from the on-going seven-part front-page series the San Francisco Chronicle is running, purportedly to bring attention to the issues of suicide and the Golden Gate Bridge as #1 suicide bridge world-wide; it seems to have a strong suggestive side, to promote the argument in support of erecting suicide barriers on the GGB.

But the waves of futility have ways of creeping up on us all unexpectedly.
