Weekend

No drinkies on Friday, so we stayed home and had a pleasant evening. Saturday we went up to the city for the LJ Convergence; not too much to report, though I did meet [livejournal.com profile] citycraig with the striking cornflower-blue eyes and talked to victim of the Spanish crime wave [livejournal.com profile] double_ohsteven. My spicy nut pilaf was only half-eaten, so we had leftovers.

After we left, we walked down to the Castro and got coffee at Starbears. Nice amenity to have in one's neighborhood -- hang out and meet your neighbors, something which just doesn't happen in the 'burbs. Noted one guy who looked exactly like [livejournal.com profile] otterpop58 will probably look 15 years from now -- still hot, just slowing down a bit. Wandered around the Castro some more, dropped into Worn Out West and coveted the leather goods, dropped into some stores. [livejournal.com profile] excessor was faintly incensed to discover lube at about half the price he last paid. I was amazed that old suitemate Jose's name was plastered all over the streets as he runs for Treasurer.

Sunday we went over to Mark and John's for an afternoon of sitting around talking with them and their guests Brent and Jay, an interesting couple who relocated from Laguna to Austin recently. They visit regularly to see the two children (now 8 and 10, I think) Jay fathered with a lesbian couple who live in the city. The kids were running around playing fantasy games most of the time we talked, periodically coming over to ask Daddy to play with them. Sweet to see, but their relationship with the moms isn't always easy. After Brent and Jay left, we were honored to be the first dinner guests in their new house. It was amusing to see them struggling with the complex lighting controls and trying to get the HDTV to play an episode of CSI-Miami recorded by their HD-DVR provided by Comcast. After a few minutes of fumbling, we enjoyed watching David Caruso's pores flex as he bullied the murderer into confession a la Perry Mason.

It was a nice weekend, wasn't it?

My spicy nut pilaf was only half-eaten, so we had leftovers.

I'll eat it. I love your spicy nut pilaf.

What? No picture of this stunning god?? If I slow down much more I'll hit absolute zero!

Nope, no picture. It didn't occur to me, and it would have been hard to do without looking rude. But he could have been your uncle, complete with similar facial hair innovations.

Hmm, if you slow past absolute zero, then your molecules will have negative speed, so you'll be going back in time... maybe you'll start getting younger soon. Or you'll just explode when you contact normal matter. I worked out the math, but it won't fit in the margins of this comment.

I haven't answered your query re attendance at your 50th. Smoke was rising from my ears when I thought about it, which means I can't answer.

The spicy nut loaf was great... but, I had to move away from the food sometime. It was getting conspicuous.

What do you think of the ex-suitemate. I haven't a clue who I'm voting for yet.

I don't know anything about the race or the other candidates, but Jose is a good fellow, bright (MIT), has paid his dues at Muni and clearly more capable than the usual machine political officeholder. But a vote for him would be a vote for a hand-picked Newsom machine selection. I don't find that disturbing, since I suspect soem sort of machine is the only way SF can be governed at present, and Newsom seems like on okay sort, probably less corrupt than most.

Where did you find the cheap lube? This single guy wants to know. Does nobody bring their own lube these days.

I don't remember the name of the store, but it's one of the two porn-and-toys stores on the west side of the second block of Castro. Prices around or a bit less than mail order.
