Those dewy young beauties
Jun. 13th, 2005 11:49 amFriday we went to Mark and John's for a grilled salmon dinner. The guest of honor was Todd, visiting from New York; he's in charge of Merrill Lynch's outreach effort to gay couples. He came from investment banking (where the brightest young business grads have been employed in recent years) and convinced ML's private client asset management group to launch this small team to market planning and investment services to gay couples. Plus he's cute and personable, which goes a long way in that business.
And he's 29 years old! Yikes. I was cruising bars when he was in diapers.
This has been happening more and more often. When the handsome young man is your typical callow youth, it is easy to see them as children and not feel any attraction for them. When they're smart and sophisticated, it just makes me feel old and tired. Welcome to oldmanhood!
Fortunately for me, I always preferred much older men. So it wouldn't occur to me to hit on a kid, and of course it's just rude not to take the hint when the object of one's attention declines to respond. This story from the similar world of law shows what a mess you can make when you try to mentor and woo at the same time...

In the referenced story, it's too bad there's not a photo of the litigant—you know, to satisfy my scholarly interest in employer-employee relations. He must be particularly handsome for that many people to continue to hit on him.
Oldmanhood? Um, how 'bout “hothood” instead?
