We enjoyed the usual Friday night cocktails and dinner with Mark and John on their terrace, now that it is warm enough to eat outside. They gave us a tour of the progress on their new house (built on the footprint of the old one), especially the new cabinets which had just been installed. The house is compact (for Atherton) in line with the trend toward smaller-but-richer, with well-designed nooks and builtins to hold everything. As usual, lots of construction problems and error corrections -- the cabinets had been made in the wrong wood (maple not beech) the first time around.

Saturday we went over to Mike and his-friend-I-can't-name-here's for dinner. It was terrific, since HFICNH is a great cook (Middle Eastern background) and they had also invited an interesting older couple. They were both well-traveled men in their 50s, and one of them holds one of the original CMP (Chemical-Mechanical Planarization) patents from his work at IBM.

Sunday was an errand and work day -- grocery shopping, yardwork, etc.

I reinjured my shoulder some last week by pushing up the weight on my lifts too fast, so I had to back down this week. This is frustrating; I've been unable to do more than 60% of my usual weights for shoulder-related lifts for two months. My strategy of lower weight and many more reps has prevented loss of muscle mass, but it takes more time, and I already have cut back my workout time by about 40% for the last six months as life has been in turmoil and household work has increased with Mike's absence. I don't seem to be suffering much loss from the slacking off, but I'm not so defined and I'm down from peak lean weight of 180# to the current 172#. I dropped back a bit on leg press to 860# but it has remained stable there.
