I'm still getting lots of emails about supposed election frauds, escape to Neverlands of perfection like Canada (and having lived there for several years, I assure you it's not a better place for nonconformists), and general gloom among the "progressive" population. Brian Doherty, most recently author of This is Burning Man, has a few words here which hopefully will help those suffering from this syndrome feel better.

I'm planning to see The Incredibles tonight after dinner with [livejournal.com profile] excessor. Looking forward to it.

Personally, I don't see running to Canada or Europe will solve anything as the more you run from a problem, the more it'll find you.

I agree the elections were less than stellar IMO and I do intend to get involved somehow, just have not figured out exactly what yet.

Heh. There are good points here.

I suppose it's a matter of knowledge here. Things always hurt more when we know they exist but cannot have them than they do when we are unaware that they're around.

We're so close on gay marriage, yet so far. It's that tantalizing taste that's so infuriating.

He's right, though...it's definitely not the end of the world.

O' Canada

Funny: Canada has such a "liberal" history what with their customs seizing virtually any literature deemed "gay" or "transgressive." The cliche' is "banned in Boston." How about banned at the border?

What a nice article! It makes me glad that I am a subscriber to Reason Magazine, and an Objectivist. Canada and Europe are much less free than the United States. I think cultural puritanism can be found on both right and left.
