Today we opened up the house for a BBQ and pool party. We invited most of our square dance club, some gym friends, and a few other special people (like [livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1 and [livejournal.com profile] qbear -- especially since they wanted to see the house). About 40 people came and ate 26 chicken breasts and 30 burgers. We ended up with far more alcohol than we started with.

I was busy a lot of the time, but I managed to take time to talk to friends I don't see very often, like Christopher. [livejournal.com profile] excessor was a big help by helping us set up and doing the BBQ chef bit. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, but as often happens I didn't get time to frolic in the pool or meet many of the new people. We'll try to have some smaller get-togethers that let us spend more time with guests. [livejournal.com profile] mike_norcal really enjoys making everything just so for our guests.

Two Sundays from now, Hurricane [livejournal.com profile] lowfatmuffin blows into town (and we do mean blows!) and we'll have a smaller group over for similar fare. LJ people who haven't tired of him during the city leg of his tour will have the opportunity to enjoy more fresh, muffin-y goodness at our place.

..and don't forget the lovely guests. It's too bad I didn't get to spend more time with you. But you obviously make great pool toys!

Hmm. Does displaying that help you get ahead? (So to speak)

I've heard you both blow and suck. Nothing like versatility. Anyway, we're looking forward to getting a piece of you in two weeks.

You guys did a terrific job! I had a good time. I didn't get a chance to talk much during times of peak attendance, so there wasn't much opportunity to talk to [livejournal.com profile] qbear or [livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1. :-( However, at the beginning and end of the party, I got to talk with several folks.

Scooby and Scott were fun to talk to. We got a chance to talk about when Scooby and I worked together 19 years ago (how come he looks better today than he did then?). Part of our conversation was about friends no longer with us. Scooby's partner, Scott mentioned that he'd come out so late in his life that he didn't have any friends who'd died and had never been to a funeral for a friend. I feel so old and weathered sometimes. And maybe a little jealous.

I got a chance to talk to Christopher for quite a while. I'd only met him in crowded City venues before, so it was fun to get to know him a little better. He seems like a nice man. Did you ever notice how handsome [livejournal.com profile] dr_scott and [livejournal.com profile] mike_norcal's friends are? Geez.

We ended up with far more alcohol than we started with.

This was quite funny. We should call it the Miracle of Our Lady Bacardi, because people brought 6-pack after 6-pack of the stuff.

They look handsome because they're standing next to us. It's a relative thing....

As for "old and weathered," you seem young and dewily innocent to me. But then I was the model for the Old Man of the Mountain in New Hampshire, who recently lost his nose.

I know Christopher mostly via ICUii, and since I don't spend much time there now, we don't talk much. The distance to San Pablo is hard to overcome.

Nice deflection, but not true. It's that Sunnyvale sunshine that keeps you both so springlike.

Young and dewily innocent? How sweet. You're not, however, paying attention. As Indiana Jones says, “It's not years, it's the mileage.”

Christopher was easy to talk to. Yes, San Pablo is far away.

Thanks for the relaxing time. Just what I needed, to eat a hamburger half naked in front of new people. Next time I will make a point to make more new friends however I did meet Steve who made the Chocolate Chip Cookies so I feel I did meet the right people. Next time let me know what I can do to help because I love adding flare to any party. Bud
P.S. What does Scooby eat because I am looking for that look in my size.

Bud:

There's some contradiction in favoring chocolate-chip cookie makers and wanting a body like Scooby's. :-)

I assume he eats what I eat - lowered carbs, good fats, high protein. He also does lots of biking.
