Bought tickets to the South Pacific revival coming through town for Saturday Oct. 3rd. Got in before the Chronicle publicity, so managed to get third row orchestra. I don't love the show like I might Oklahoma or West Side Story, but Paul's never seen it and the reviews are decent.

Also trying to plan the trip back East for Thanksgiving with Paul's relatives and his high school reunion, which I hope to avoid. But the weekend before Thanksgiving, we'll drop in to New York and see a show or two. You wouldn't know there was a recession to look at hotel prices -- the obvious (Marriott Times Square) is still $400 a night.

Hopefully the road show of South Pacific will feature, as it did on Broadway, a full orchestra to bring out the richness of the score. You've got to be taught before it's too late...

It's not luxurious, but The Edison Hotel is central and the rates should be a lot more reasonable. Let me know what you think of the revival. My Seattle friend Chad Jennings is in the tour.

HUGS!

Go see "A Steady Rain" with Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig and let me know if either or both take their shirts (or pants) off.

Hmm, that would be worth seeing from the first row.

South Pacific probably has some of R&H's best music, but maybe the worst book of any of them (if I'm using that term correctly). At least, I think the movie, which is the only version I've seen, is a mess.

I've only seen the movie also. Apparently the revival added back significant material taken out of the show in its original run and sharpens up the drama a bit.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] zzbear saw it in New York (of course) and says it was great. The tour will not have the same cast, though.

Might depend on what night. 5th is pretty good anyway!

Recession or not, Thanksgiving is the busiest time of the year to try to travel to NYC. But I'm sure you know how to sweet-talk hotel desk managers into better rates.

Needless to say, we must see you when you're here.

It's one of the nicest times to be there, of course, and there are many others doing the same thing -- going early for Thanksgiving.

I imagine we will be seeable!

That's the weekend the rates go up for the holidays.

Naturally. Well, we have to be in the area for the family and school events, so we'll just have to pay up.
