Since Mike spent the day with Sam, I went to the gym with [livejournal.com profile] excessor and helped him work his shoulders. The pain did not seem too severe, except he couldn't lift his arms afterwards. Oh well.

Then we had dinner at Togos and zipped over to the Mercado (a styrofoam-and-vinyl-sprayon-stucco palace on 101 in Santa Clara) for Alien vs. Predator. It doesn't deserve too much comment -- enjoyable bubble gum, every cliche in the book and then some, and no surprises. Both the Aliens and the Predators had to be made considerably less formidable than in the originals for the plot to work (Aliens can now be killed by super-spears and swords, Predators don't immediately kill everything and even stop to take their helmets off to perform tribal warrior-style rituals. Which proves to be unwise, but anyway....)

The effects were kind of fun, and if you didn't think too much it was fine. Oh, and we want to know why the heroine wasn't freezing to death in a skimpy knit top. Guess a fight scene is better if there are also boobs in the frame.

And I had to hold [livejournal.com profile] excessor's hand during the scary bits. I'm immune, but his sensitive soul couldn't take the sight of alien-crab-things coming out of oozing, gelatinous eggs.

I can still barely lift my arms. I think tomorrow it's really going to hurt. It was a great workout.

I totally enjoyed Alien vs. Predator. It's rare to see a film have so many clichés and not be a spoof. And there was far more fiction than science. However, it was completely enjoyable.

And thanks for holding my hand. I'm not good with suspense.

Awww, [livejournal.com profile] excessor had to have his hand held during the movie? Has a sensitive soul? who'd da thunk? :-P

(runs from room quickly to avoid [livejournal.com profile] excessor accidently hearing)

Oh, I admit it. I squirm and have to close my eyes and I jump. I avoid suspense movies as a result. If it's not suspenseful, I'm fine: I can watch blood and gore pretty easily. But even the thought of watching Glenn Close stalking that guy with a knife in Fatal Attraction (which I've never seen) is enough to … well, avoid seeing the movie.

It helps to go with a friend who doesn't make fun of me (too much).

Uh... ... Yeah. ;-) Well, I'll be honest here and say that while I don't get quite that bad, but I'm easily embarrassed by embarassing situations, which is partly why I don't like most comedies, Sitcoms included because it's all about embarrasing situations etc.
