I have planned to go to my first Lazy Bear Weekend three straight times, and came down with a cold each time, so this year I made no plans and came down with no cold. C'est la vie. At least I can experience it vicariously via the picture laden postings of [livejournal.com profile] bigreddee and others.

Monday night we went out to dinner at Kabul with [livejournal.com profile] excessor to celebrate my birthday. The kabobs were great (and perfect for my high-protein diet), so we splurged on rose-and-pistachio ice cream, which was terrific. I was sleepy for an hour as the unaccustomed dose of sugar rushed into my bloodstream. Returning home, we watched the most recent (disturbing) 6FU and spent some time in the Jacuzzi. Nice, calm birthday.

Between massage clients and his new bicycling kick (which he picked up from Shy), Mike has been unable to finish up the front yard project -- the new plantings have been unmulched for 6 months. We finally got around to that today; he went and got a half-yard of mulch and some landscape fabric and started into it. We stopped at one point to add another drip hose for a clump of lavendar that seems to need more water, then got about 2/3 of the way through covering the area before we ran out of mulch. But it does look nice, and it will be great not to have to string-trim amongst the new plants to keep the weeds down.

I love Kabul Restaurant. I always end up getting the same thing. One weekend we should go to a Persian restaurant I know (whose name escapes me for the moment) in San Mateo. Same basic idea, but the flavorings are a little more delicate and the desserts won't hurt as much. Not that I'm complaining about the ice cream—it was the first real non-nonfat, non-lowfat ice cream I can remember since before Christmas.

Six Feet Under was intense and vivid. The jacuzzi time after that episode was especially calming. I'm glad I was able to share your birthday with you and Mike.

Your yard is beautfiul already but I'm glad you started the mulching. It makes yardwork much easier.
