Stumptown Stomp 2008
Apr. 27th, 2008 10:47 pmMade up my mind to go Thursday evening, and Friday a bit after noon Gary picked me up in his larger Lexus for a comfy, chatty ride up to Guerneville. Place is looking a bit sad, more straight, most "resorts" still open overpriced and rundown, or converted to the steadier straight trade. We stayed at the Fern Grove Cottages, which was otherwise filled with wine buffs there for an event weekend.
The crowd was good. The usual mix of phenomenal and weak dancers, and not all the weak ones were newbies. Unlike Convention, I had pretty much flirted with everyone I'd want to flirt with before, so there wasn't much going on at that end. One little fireplug did pull me aside (away from his partner) and told me, "if you fuck me really good, I'll tell everyone how great you are!", which was a charming proposal but perhaps not quite in tune with my goals. It was unexpectedly warm, and while I had thought about packing some tanktops to dance, I somehow forgot them and ended up wearing my workout top when it was really warm, which is a bit skimpy for dancing in, but at least I wasn't sweating all over.
I danced a lot more than I normally would to help get 'A' cemented in. Still weak on a few things but about average now in terms of number of breakdowns I cause. It was especially embarrassing to have
otterpop58 calling and have him say, "Curtis, turn around" or the like, just like 10+ years ago when he was teaching me Plus. Well, he was mostly gentle, at least.
Hard to eat well; had to supplement the inn's continental breakfast with protein drinks, and the restaurants were into carbs, too. No gym for two straight days! Horrors. Went to bed by midnight every night, and still was tired out by Sunday.
LJ people in attendance:
fuzzygruf and
double_ohsteven,
markosf,
sfbearhoney,
sfleatherbear and
bibliocub, as well as the aforementioned
otterpop58. As usual, if I missed anybody, forgive me!
The following picture is of dancing starting up in the morning in the main hall, with
