Gym and diet notes
Sep. 18th, 2007 01:58 pmI don't feel like tackling the travel writeup right now, so I'll just write about the smallest stuff.
While we were gone we managed about 2/3 the usual workout schedule, finding a gym in Paris and Barcelona, and using the ship's decent-sized gym almost daily. But the equipment there was limited and some muscles didn't get worked much, so getting back to my usual schedule here has been an adjustment. I'm in some pain from all those small muscles that didn't get worked enough.
I ate about twice what I usually would eat while on the ship. The high activity level and high metabolism burned it all off, though, so I weighed the same when I got home. You can expend 1,000+ calories dancing in two hours...
I was almost always hot. Even for the bay area, we're acclimated to cool, and the ship was just cool enough; I often wore very little when others around me had on shirts and pants. This was only a problem on those tours requiring "modest" dress because of church visits, like the Vatican and Istanbul, where I suffered a lot. One dinner in Mykonos was torture for me because I was sweating through my clothes. I am terribly spoiled by my usual comfortable (and easily controlled) environment.
