Friday night [livejournal.com profile] excessor came over for his "guinea pig" massage duty -- Mike has to do 20 massages as part of this term's class. I didn't hear any screaming so it apparently went well.

Then we served our special salmon dinner -- he admitted to actually liking it, so one more brick in the dietary wall came down. Followed with blackberries in yogurt for dessert and moved on to our feature presentation, the frothy but well-photographed Under the Tuscan Sun. Despite several "we've been there!"s, it was a bit disappointing, a chick flick par excellence -- the synthetic story (which doesn't appear in the book) involves a messy divorce and subsequent affairs with improbably handsome men, culminating in Mr. Right just happening by. Some Hollywood type decided the book was so popular it was necessary to throw away most of it and substitute a Lifetime Network movie.

The rest of the weekend was full of the usual chores. Mike went off to Walnut Creek Saturday with a friend to pick up the friend's new Jeep, called me to tell me he'd be late getting back home, then fell asleep on the friend's couch, not turning up until the next day. A more suspicious sort would be... more suspicious! :-)

The highlight today was fixing the pool pump, which had picked up a high-pitched whine and showed reduced pressure at the filter. Sure enough, when I took it apart the impellor was clogged with tree debris which had somehow made it through two levels of screening. Grrr.

Meanwhile, a palm tree which grew Too Much had pushed on the plastic/wood composite deck, breaking the stainless teel screws holding the edge of the deck down next to the pool. I have been working on the problem of getting new screws into the concrete below to hold it in the right place, and did some macho concrete drilling. Sucessfully put in two or three of them when it started to rain, so I had to hurriedly move all the tools and stuff back inside to await a better day.

We have so much fun down here in the burbs! You City guys have no idea what you're missing.

Yes, the lesbian friend was great, and the crew was fun (and realistic -- I've run into enough Poles and Alabanians and the like in southern Europe to see who relly does the manual labor). More of the house issues would have been nice.

The OTOH is that the romance objects were so unrealistically pretty. Every time our 40s hero met a new 30ish man, I kept looking over at Mike (my partner), who similarly meets these younger specimens. :-) But I suppose I'm just being grumpy, they were pleasant fantasy men. The most realistic romance (with the unavailable, married, older real estate agent) couldn't be translated into hot body shots... guess I'm in a iconoclastic, stop-on-Hello-Kitty sort of mood.

Every time I do anything on the house, there's an average of three hardware store trips to get just the right thing (and you keep discovering new parameters as you do the job.) The fun never ends.

I didn't hear any screaming so it apparently went well.

I was on my best behavior and thought it best to not hurt him, especially since he was supposed to make dinner.

Yes, I admit it, I do like salmon, especially the way you two prepared it. I even tried to buy some this weekend for me to experiment with at home, but I chickened out. (Get it? ha ha ha) I decided it's not supposed to have things growing on it, so I left it in the misnamed Fresh Seafood case.

The movie was cute. After suspending all that disbelief, the characters were likable. You and Mike were cute, pointing out the places you had been. Makes me want to go to Italy, where everyone is friendly and well-mannered to Americans.

I had a terrific time. It was a wonderful ending to a nasty week.

You did well. I think you contain all your negative parts when we're around and loose them on your co-workers, or so you've indicated. :)

In general, it's not fair to dump on friends when coworkers present challenges. I normally just internalize everything and hope it will work out. As my frustration grows, it's harder for me to contain myself and even now, on Monday, I'm avoiding the people and conversations I know will set me off. Sic transit gloria weekendi.

As you know, the official story is that I'm nothing but sweetness and light to all I meet.
