I want a new life

...or at least a vacation from house chores, breakdowns, disrupted routines, and the general lack of fun.

The "temporary" red dye in my hair is not washing out as the label said it would. Meanwhile, my car is back with a new battery and new starter/solenoid. The bloom is off the rose of this relationship, though, so I'm ready to turn it in for something newer. The Prius looks good, but I can also have a zippy little Scion xA at a bit over half the cost of the Prius. Still thinking it over.

The painters thought they would be done by noon. Alas, I had to point out two sides of the house needed another coat (the first coat did not fill in the fine cracks in the old paint) and certain things remaining to be done would take more time than they thought. Painting the Eichler house numbers, for example, which are carved wood numerals with the faces painted the body color while the background piece and sides of the numerals are painted the trim color.

The house color is not quite what I wanted it to be (it's too light), but the trim is exactly right (perfect match for inside). There was no way to precisely duplicate in paint the color of the eave overhangs, which has a streaky redwood underlying a blue-gray semitransparent stain, but the color we picked comes close.

I am stressed out.

The red is working well for you... enjoy it for a while.

[identity profile] robearal.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmmm, auburn hair and a thick brushy stache.
*swoon*

[identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Two classics looking mighty fine in their new colors. ;-)

You win the "cleverest short comment" award! It didn't occur to me...

[identity profile] ruggerguy7.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I would live there

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we haven't advertised the houseboy position yet... :-)

[identity profile] ruggerguy7.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe I could do that while the Saint is living in Spain

[identity profile] mrdreamjeans.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You'vet change the colors on home and hair; they might not be quite what you wanted; but both look just fine:) You look handsome, regardless, so why not enjoy the change of hair color for a bit. I go through it all the time with my work. The only "color" I'm not ready for is white. *grin*

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
...or "none." Talk about scary. I've yet to try shaving it all off....

[identity profile] excessor.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you making another “bald” joke?

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Would I do that? [bats eyes] I actually like your cute bald[ing] spot. Shows you have excess DHT (dihydrotestosterone.)

[identity profile] excessor.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You have to look at my bald[ing] spot to know that? Tsk tsk.

[identity profile] allanh.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The red becomes you very nicely.

The house looks beautiful, and you should feel slightly smug for having gotten more value out of your house painters than they'd intended. They're only upset because they undercharged you, which is probably better than the alternative, as long as you're happy with the final paint job.

Randy loves his Scion xA. He got a cold air (performance) kit for it, which made it even zippier. See him for details. He'll be delighted to hear that someone else is thinking about skewing Scion's buyer statistical curve way upwards in the age range.

You can even get a red leather xA steering wheel to complement your hair! (Just kidding about the hair part, but the red leather does add a nice accent to the interior.)

Is there anything we can do to make you feel less stressed out, other than leaving humorous comments in your LJ?

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I felt especially guilty about making them stay because the foreperson's gf (a leggy long-haired blond) arrived at lunch to wait for him. I'm guessing they were planning to take off early for points north. She ate her lunch sitting on an upturned bucket, smoked and generally looked bored for three more hours.

I'll ask Randy about the xA. It seems like the ideal teensy car, like a cheaper Mini with better reliability stats. Plus the hyped feature: plug-in iPod interface. Oooh! [rolls eyes]

And the humorous comments are just the thing. I feel better already. I'm taking a little time off to do nothing today, which helps.

[identity profile] allanh.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Substantially better reliability stats.

(And you are not responsible for your painting contractor's love life, or lack thereof. If they'd estimated correctly in the first place, the gf wouldn't've had to wait around until they were done. Not Your Problem.)

MINI

nuff said

The house looks quite nice. As for the red - well all I have to say is "collars and cuffs" :)

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You've done well with redheads, as I recall. :-)

On my list of things to do: install the sling. Accessorizing comes later.

[identity profile] theoctothorpe.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The house turned out wonderfully, although my OCD would go into overdrive with your house numbers not being aligned (or is that an optical illusion?). I rather like the lighter colour.

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they are uneven. The numbers are glued on to the base, and it looks like somebody flubbed the alignment. You're not helping my OCD by noticing...!

[identity profile] theoctothorpe.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I am good like that ;-)

My bet is that after this, you'll have the numbers re-done by the week-end! ;-)

[identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I wasnt gonna mention the misaligned numbers. I'm overly sensitive in that way as well. ;-)

[identity profile] castrowoof.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Both the house and you look quite good, Curtis.

What is important is that *you* be happy with the results. Luckily if the color isn't something you can live with, it can be easily changed.

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it'll do. By next summer the shrubs will have recovered from the overpruning and it will look great (I think.)

[identity profile] excessor.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The new hair color is less obvious in person than the photo would suggest, and I happen to like it, although I like the natural color better. Given who reads your journal, I'm surprised that no one has asked if the carpet matches the drapes.

I love the color on the front door.

[identity profile] dr-scott.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
There are no drapes! This is an Eichler... oh, wait, were you talking about something else?

[identity profile] trulygrateful.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
red hair...

white house...

all that's needed is someone whom you once blew!

[identity profile] grandiva1968.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Red good.

[identity profile] ciddyguy.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Nicely done!

I rather like how it all came out - and clean looking too! :-)

The red dye, from the photo looks good, more of a coppery highlight than an actual red is how I see it.
