Not much to report here. Tonight was ECR's Plus graduation, but alas! -- my battery ran out before the actual ceremony and I forgot to bring the extra. So I have some shots of the dancing but nothing else.

This was one of the largest classes we've ever had, and Harlan got a big hand for doing a terrific job of teaching. It has been interesting seeing someone use a very different teaching style from Andy's; in some ways Harlan's minimal descriptions of the new call we're about to do seems less confusing than some of Andy's occasionally meandering (though entertaining) explanations. But Andy has the "diva" gene, and we love him for it... [heh]

Oh, and Paul looked very butch mowing the yard over the weekend:

I know all about dead batteries. My camera goes through 'em like they are going outa style. It's time I get me a battery charger that'll recharge 'em in as little as 15 minutes and be done with it. :-)

You look - oh, how do I say this politely? I guess I don't - well, not at your most intelligent.

You appear to have a facial expression which suggests that you're not quite certain what to do with the mower whose handle you're leaning into.

On the other hand, I've always thought musclebound gym hunks who ain't smart but can lift heavy objects were pretty hot.

So I'd say the picture's a keeper.

(And knowing you, and knowing that you're not only musclebound now and hot, but that you also have a fabulous brain and aren't afraid of using it - I'd say you're definitely a keeper. No wonder Curtis was so smiley at square dancing tonight while you were making announcements.)

Amazing what a consistent workout can do for the musculature! Paul can be very proud of his efforts. I'm sure your support and guidance was key. He looks terrific in the picture! Hugs to both of you!

Interesting comments about Andy and Harlan's differing teaching styles. Both are clearly effective. I agree for the most part. Andy's style is much more polished, Harlan's much more technically correct and better if you're intending to move up to higher levels. Both seem to work well.

As to Paul's woofiness, he's always been that. Now it's just being served with a nice muscly coating!

I think of arms as icing on the cake -- they should be an afterthought, just a finishing touch when your primary muscle groups are up to speed. But Paul likes the immediate gratification of looking good in a knit shirt, so he's most assiduous about working them. And as I tell Paul, he (unlike me) is naturally well-muscled and it doesn't take as much work to build'em.

Both the pool and Paul are warming up for summer. But they both get gooey and sticky (the pool with algae, Paul with... umm...uh) if you don't pay attention to them often enough.

"Now with added muscle!" I remind him he looked great even before the recent upgrades.

Harlan hasn't done much detailed "dance by definition" teaching, which I suspect only confuses the typical class member who has yet to reach the stage where they can imagine geometrically what is about to happen. This is probably best left for post-Plus extended teaching, preparatory to Advanced. Verbal descriptions of calls are hard to do well, and sometimes it's better just to do it than to talk about it.

From what I can tell, Paul has the goods more or less in the right places and proportions (as you definitely do). This will have to be determined after some scantily-clad poolside shots are posted. For empirical testing purposes, of course!

The yard is looking mighty fine too, I'm so glad you've remained in your house together, you've put a lot of effort into making it what it is now. Much better than pulling up roots and starting from scratch.

It's become plain as to why there was a family known as the "Incredibles" living in an Eichler. There is inspiration in real life. ;o)

How very kind of you. I've never been known for my yard work but I'm happy to do it if we're not too picky about the occasional mistake. Sometimes I kill the wrong plant.

I wouldn't say I'm musclebound, although I'm happy if you think so.

Maybe in a year. The shirt hides a number of sins. Curtis tells me that he knows I have a sixpack under there, but right now I have three or four of them—practically a keg.

He's quite the jokester. Ha ha.

Harlan jumps right in and he takes no time at all to teach complex calls. I like that, and it still amazes me when he does it. Andy has a more intellectual introduction to the calls and then drills the calls far better and from different formations.

I'm just glad we got through the class.
