I'm my own grandpa....

I never met either grandfather, but here's a bit on one, with me holding a family heirloom.

That's a great photo of you holding the gun. You look like you're protecting your homestead. A modern homstead with glass doors, but a homestead nonetheless. From this photo and the link in an earlier post to photos from your trip, it's clear that you're one of those people who can wear a hat well. There aren't too many of you, and I'm jealous.

The offer letter is illuminating. When was the last time you saw an offer letter like this one? I can't quite make out the salary, but it doesn't sound like much and the job sounds difficult. There's a world of difference between then and now.

Looks like a dork with a gun to me. :-)

Watch yourself, if you keep sucking up to me in comments people will think you're compromised. Not that I mind.

As for the offer, it's quaintly polite. $60 a month was a lot then, in today's dollars about $15K a year. The area was roughly at the stage of development India is at now.

Hey, that's no gun.

Oh, am I sucking up? I thought I was trying help sustain a conversation. In an effort to ensure that others don't feel I'm sucking up, allow me to revise the comment:

Who's the dork acting out a probably subconscious Freudian concern? And someone should tell him to quit wearing hats because unless you're Carol Channing, Omar Sharif in Dr. Zhivago, or a cast member of Beach Blanket Babylon, hats are passé.

How's that? :-) I would spit, too, but there appears to be no commonly accepted typographic convention for that.

Back to you, Arlene.

Oh, that's the evil queen side of you you keep saying you have but that I haven't seen! Heh. I think you've done your bit to relieve readers of the impression you like me for something other than my mind.

As you may have gathered, I don't take compliments gracefully. Just a part of my general humility and modesty. Really too perfect for this world.... :-)

No, that's the benevolent queen side of me. You have yet to experience the evil queen side of me. I'm trying to suppress that side. Just don't piss me off. [lol]

I do like you for something other than your mind—you're a kind man with a good sense of humor and a capacity for empathy that goes deeper than many people know. I'm quite happy to count you among my friends.

Yes, I know about the compliment problem. I share it, which is why you get a lot of slack about it.

As for your general humility and modesty, yes, you're exactly right: too perfect for this world. [rolls eyes] By any chance have you been drinking? Come sit by me tonight at ECR.
