Coping with changes
I've been quiet lately, but I have a lot on my mind and not much of it is easily translated to journal entries. Here are some things I haven't written about and some progress reports:
As you may remember I "lost" the El Camino Reelers election for board member. One of the extremely competent winners, Michael H, announced last week that he was resigning for personal reasons that aren't completely clear, so the board had to announce an election to replace him. I had to regretfully decline since I am both busy and a little wobbly myself at the moment.
The window replacement project stalled when the second bidder took his time to get here for an inspection, and we still haven't received the bid. I lean toward the first guy anyway, but this has delayed things a few weeks.
The kitchen remodel is moving along; I ordered a new sink and faucet online and the sink arrived yesterday, with the faucet on backorder. The electrician came by on Friday to advise on the cooktop's circuit -- it turns out stringing a new wire through the old conduit through the slab is iffy, and there is no practical way to run new wires in an Eichler (no attic or crawlspace), so we have to live with the capacity of the existing wire, which fortunately is about 35 amps. The smallest of the available Gaggenau touch-control glass-ceran cooktops uses 31 amps, so it just makes it. I ordered it on Friday from the local supplier and it should arrive from Germany in about two weeks.
I tried on my old "black toga" Halloween costume yesterday. Now I remember why I haven't used it since 1992: too bloomin' cold! You can't run around in skimpy costumes in this weather.
Mike has told me that I need to make other plans and shouldn't count on him being here. So I guess I should announce that I am available for recreational and cultural activities, should I ever feel like doing anything. Right now I am more likely to stay home, but without anyone to snuggle up with it's not much fun.

That's what black overcoats are for...you show up at a party, fling it off, and *PRESTO* -- a dramatic entrance! ;)
You're gonna handle all these changes well, I can tell already...

It will be a shame that you can't run to replace Michael on the ECR Board. I would have immediately suggested that all meetings be held at your house and that you get all the action items. Ok, maybe not all of them.
Four years ago I did a window replacement and kitchen remodel as well, although with nothing so fancy as a Gaggenau cooktop. Oh, I lusted, but my kitchen layout doesn't allow it.
I think you should go with the skimpy toga costume. You'll be dancing anyway, so you'll warm right up.
You're more than welcome to hang out with me. As you know, my life is a whirlwind of fun and excitement (you, too, can count change). And there are many more snuggle opportunities at my house.
