No dancing

I'm not up to square dancing tonight. I used an earlier burst of energy to get out the circular saw and cut up some pine shelving for storage in the garage, then after making my butch points for the day, fell asleep.

Last night I had [livejournal.com profile] excessor over and we watched Igby Goes Down, which is in rotation on the Sundance channel. It was terrific -- an updated Catcher in the Rye. [livejournal.com profile] excessor particularly identified with the fabulously snarky mother played by Susan Sarandon. The cast obviously wanted to be there ("At last! An intelligent script!"), with supporting cast including Claire Danes, Jeff Goldblum, Jared Harris, Amanda Peet, Ryan Phillippe, Cynthia Nixon, and Bill Pullman. The one off note for me was Jeff Goldblum as Igby's strangely interested wealthy godfather -- his performance was restrained (as if to imply barely-restrained aggression) but it didn't work well, possibly because he is too associated in my mind with his usual manic characterizations.

Igby Goes Down was absolutely delightful and I'm so glad we watched it. I have loved Susan Sarandon ever since Rocky Horror.

About Susan Sarandan

I don't know if you knew this but Susan Sarandan's first film was a 1970 film called Joe played an upper middle class daughter who falls in love with a druggie and lives with him in his very run down apartment in a not so good section of a Northern Eastern city, such as NY, infact I think it is NY as part of the movie takes place in Up state NY if I recall right. Rod Steiger was in the movie as the working class guy who's very bigited and would hit the bars and talk shit like a good ol' redneck.

Very dark and unsettling film. I've never been able to totaly watch the whole thing.

She was good in it however.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. :-)
