More of the usual with
zzbear. Friday we went on an expedition to the SoMa Golds and Costco; the just-afternoon crowd at the gym was pretty lame, and Costco was as always full of ethnic families entertaining and feeding themselves on samples. Is it really a good idea to attract grazing groups that make it so hard to get around that people who just want to buy things are turned off? I only go there once a quarter because it is such an ordeal. Spent $789 on the usual necessities like canned salmon and Kirkland vodka, plus goodies for the party on Saturday.
After putting all the goodies away, David and I headed down for Castro happy hour. Ran into the snuggly
dendren and newly-engaged
dhbearguy at the Midnight Sun and advised DH that he can marry in any state where it's legally allowed and get all rights and privileges of marriage in California except the word "marriage" -- assuming the new law is not overturned by court action.
Got home to meet
excessor for drinks and dinner. Saturday we did party prep and the gym before going home for a quick bite before the guests arrived. Paul Perkovic (old friend from Harvard/MIT days) showed up an hour early because he was going to have to leave so soon, so we finished getting ready while enjoying his company. The rest of the crowd started to arrive promptly at 7.
I kept the guest list small, so I think about 20 people actually came at one time or another, including such LJ luminaries as
rootbeer1,
fuzzybearcub,
markosf,
urbear,
fuzzygruf and
double_ohsteven,
jeffla and
likethecandybar,
nanocub, and
bearddenver (visiting!). Also along for the ride were David's former bf Sam (who now lives a few doors down from us), the Other David (Tuller) and a goodlooking guest who knew me from somewhere, Brendon and Wade, and the decorative Steven Rezentes.
At some point I suddenly remembered I was going to surprise David with a birthday cake for his birthday next month, since no one at this party could make his eastern parties. I got the cake candled up and lit and rounded up everyone not realizing 6 or so people were up on the roofdeck with Paul! Ooops. But it was all eaten, and I didn't even mention it's his 50th birthday this time... except to Steven, who didn't believe it. I told him David never really grew up, so he might as well be 16 as far as energy is concerned.
As the party broke up, a group decided to meet up with the visiting Brad Ward from DC down at 440. David went along, but the quarry left the bar shortly before they all got there, so David come home relatively quickly.
Sunday we did brunch at Tangerine again, and ran into Bob Mould and Michael again as they snacked before going on the Open House route. Steven Rezentes turned up at Peets, and we kept running into more people we knew as we walked around; it was a gorgeous hot summer day and gave David a pretty good idea of why it's fun to live here. The gym was full of eye candy, and we finished off the evening with dinner at Fattoush.

zzbear left this morning. We expect him back in January or so.
