Picked up [livejournal.com profile] steven_homer at SFO Thursday morning. In the afternoon, we walked down to the gym, where he saw one current porn star (he knew his name, I couldn't remember it, so there) and lots more interesting men than he'd seen in a year at his gym in Albuquerque. We worked out together, and it was very noticeable that I was being noticed more than usual -- I suspect when I'm talking and laughing with someone I stop giving off the "don't look at me" vibes I usually emanate.

We then met up with Paul at Tangerine for a great dinner marred slightly when my towering entree toppled over into my lap. Luckily I was still wearing black nylon gym shorts, which were easy to wipe off, and they brought me another one quite quickly. Thumbs up for quick response, down for piling up food into towers in the first place.

Friday I did stuff at home and went to Safeway while he went out to meet friends for breakfast and lunch. He called to say he was going to be late, so I did the usual workout by myself -- back to not being noticed! I met up with him at the Midnight Sun, which is becoming a Friday bear bar. Ran into [livejournal.com profile] dhbearguy and [livejournal.com profile] dendren as well as some other friends. Paul was running too late to meet us, so we walked back up hill at 7 to have dinner at home. Stew!

Saturday was spent getting ready for the small party we were having in his honor, plus the visit to Golds SoMa to work out. Whipped up a small dinner, then prepared for guests to start arriving at 7.

The party went quite well, being mostly people I thought Steven would want to meet; some from LJ, some not. So he "knew" (from reading them) about a third of the crowd, which helped. His post is amusing. I think about 11 bottles of wine, a sixpack of beer, and 20 units of hard liquor were consumed by the 20 people there. I accounted for less than two. The nibbles were great, especially the baked cheese olives [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygruf made.

I was running around too much to take any pictures, but my friend Steve Johnson took this one (borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] low_fat_muffin):

The last people left after midnight, so we just put away the perishables and went to bed. Cleanup happened the next morning. The recycle cart was totally full of bottles...

Sunday was recovery day. Gym, then the Eagle and Lone Star beer busts -- crowded, but not with very many people I knew or likely wanted to know, though long-ago bf Mario T was working the charitable desk at the Eagle. Talked to Joe R and a few others, but not as much fun as i would have hoped. Dinner at Blue (where Mack was a few tables away, so another semi-famous face for Steven.) Went home and watched some bad movies -- parts of Speed Racer (interesting for about half an hour) and Jumper (Hayden Christensen? Really??)

Today Steven and I waited for the fog to lift a bit, then drove to Ocean beach for a walk along the shore. Then we walked down to the ruins of the Sutro Baths, which he wanted to see since he had lived a short distance up the hill when he was 20 and visited often then. Many seals, gulls, and ducks.

Dropped Steven off at SFO around 4, hoping to get back in time to go to the gym, but when I got home I was too tired. I need a vacation from his vacation!

Repeating what I said to [livejournal.com profile] excessor, thanks once again to for having me. It was so great to get to know you both. And I'm happy to serve as your gym cruising catalyst any time.

What a great party photo ... so many friends I either know well in person, or intend to ...

... Stephen's adorable, but I suspect you already know that. :>) I need that wig t-shirt! You have a great smile here, too ...

I was so happy to be invited to this, though I regret (on multiple levels) the dent I put in your alcohol supply.

fun fun, sounds like a wonderful weekend. Was nice to see ya Friday even if it was just a quickie hello.

So what was your towering food thingee? What is towering entree anyway... thankfully it isn't served flambe whatever it is. Towering inferno in your lap = bad.

he mentioned a towering entree that fell in his lap. Did I accidently reply to your comment instead of his entry?

My bad. I thought you were referring to something in the party picture.

That was at Tangerine. Instead of arranging food around the plate, they put everything in a tower in the center -- rice layer, veggie layer, meat layer (in this case two pieces of fish, breaded and fried, laid on top orthogonal to each other.) The resulting tower of food is about 5" tall and not very stable. Dramatic but not a good idea in a city famous for quakes.

I think I've had the very dish you're talking about. As I remember it was quite tasty.
