Biofuel was a good idea that turned out to have some nasty side effects (as implemented). I still hold out hope for algea biofuels and other methods that are not farmland intensive. But, yeah, using food plants for gasoline instead of food was clearly not the bright idea it was hoped to be. :(

i read this article, and the linked one (why biofuels are the rainforest's worst enemy). very sad. made me tear up a bit.
