The builder's guys showed up yesterday at 8 AM. More holes cut in the interior wallboard to look for penetration points. They ran water over the area with a hose but nothing was visible; finally they hit the right area, and we soon had water in most of the usual places (on the stairs, running down the walls....) So they think they found the leak, though i am doubtful it is the only one. Today they are using all sorts of heavy equipment up there -- jackhammers included.

The builders left around noon, and after lunch I left for my session as a model with an artist fellow who'd asked me to pose for him a few months ago. I had forgotten some of the details agreed to; turns out I don't get an original sketch but only a full-sized copy.

His place is over past Geary near Divisadero. Ran down to the Castro intending to catch the Divisadero bus, but as I ran up Divisadero no bus appeared. As usually happened in Boston, I got to where I was going faster on foot than I could have by bus. The return trip was the same: all the way back to Market, passing bus stops full of waiting people, and I never saw the bus. Took about 25 minutes. Didn't need to do cardio at the gym as a result.

The artist was in his 60s and his day job is mid-level management at the Opera; tomorrow's agenda for him included an emergency meeting on staffing and layoffs, just like everywhere else. His apartment was stuffed with antiques and Persian rugs, very Old San Francisco. He had set up a studio in a corner with lighting and a chair.

He suggested we start with something easy, so I sat on the chair backward, arms folded on the backrest and head resting on my arms. He began sketching with charcoal, which is impressively noisy. After the first fifteen minutes, he marked where my feet and legs were with blue painter's tape and I got up to stretch; my arms had fallen asleep. Two more sessions like that, and he was done. he had intended to do two but thought the first was worth working on further, so that's all he did.

The sketch turned out well. I'm not very familiar with the appearance of my back, since I never really see it, but it was recognizably me. I'll pick up the copy next time I go over.
