Palm Springs weekend
Jun. 4th, 2007 10:12 amSpent the weekend in Palm Springs with Mark and John, who are celebrating birthdays (they're both still younger than I am, which they love to point out.) Tasty dinner with the usual people-watching at El Mirasol Friday night, relaxed Saturday around the pool (getting my first full-body sun of the season), went to the gym (Golds, pretty quiet, saw the same regulars as last time), took M&J to dinner at a high-end restaurant (Zins) as our birthday present to them, crashed early (going to bars there at 11 did not seem worthwhile). More relaxing Sunday morning, then lunch and an uneventful trip home Sunday afternoon. Time was so short we didn't even try to see our other friends down there.
The heat was difficult for me, since I'm cool-loving even for the Bay Area, but I can imagine getting used to it. More troublesome is the sense that the population of really interesting people there is small. Maybe we should move up to the city to retire and keep PS as a wintering spot, only moving completely down there when we're really old (10-20 years from now?) We'll be thinking about it; Mark and John are lobbying for us to move down ASAP.
zzbear was also visiting friends for the weekend. Exchanging a few dozen bytes via text messages kept him on my mind. It's a dual-track world for me, and a lot remains to be talked about before he gets here next month.
I, at least, won't have to travel any more for months. Now I can focus on tasks like sending people our change-of-address and getting the house more organized.
