drscott: (ECR)
[livejournal.com profile] nanocub sent out a call for brief bios of people running for the ECR Board. Usually just enough victims candidates run to fill the available slots -- generally armtwisting and persuasion are required to get people to run, since it's work with little compensation (contrary to rumor, you do not get first crack at the best-looking students!) This time, 4 people are running for three open slots. Gee, this means I could lose. Should I campaign? Wouldn't I rather lose? ....

So the requested bio is supposed to be only 3-4 sentences long and somehow discuss "yourself, your experience, what you can bring to the ECR Board, and/or what you would like the ECR Board to accomplish next year." Yeesh, that sounds like a page. I was tempted to write "More fun, more food, more dancing, lower fees!" but perhaps that would be too much like our governmental elections. These bios are usually clumsily written by the candidates themselves as if they were third parties. This is what I ended up with:

Danced with ECR for 6 years. 47, programmer and financial planner, recently retired. Ran own businesses for 15 years. Familiar with tax and accounting issues. The board will have an unusually challenging year, with selection of a new club caller and diversion of much club energy to the 2005 Convention, while continuing to provide excellent dancing and social opportunities for everyone.

I didn't have room to suggest how we might go about accompishing those things. Oh well, having the right goal is probably better than any plans this far in advance. And I still hope Andy changes his mind.
