Board Meeting

While partner Mike was at his massage class, I went down to Rusty and Eric's place in downtown San Jose for the ECR board meeting. They'll need three full and one replacement board member, and I'll likely be one of them -- though it'd be nice to know who the other victims nominees will be.

I had no problem driving to downtown, but once I reached their apartment, parking turned out to be as hard to find as it would be in SF. I went around the block three times and ended up two blocks away in the parking garage I usually use when attending a Rep or Camera Cinema show.

Fortunately Paul ([livejournal.com profile] excessor) was even later. The meeting was about half about a personnel matter that can't be discussed publicly as yet, but it's one of two possible threats to the club's ongoing existence, the other being the favorable arrangement we have for the church space we use. The YWCA next door was just sold to a synagogue, so things do change, and any replacement space would likely bust the budget.

Getting back home proved to be challenging. I couldn't find the onramp to 280 and ended up driving south in unknown terrain. I pulled over, got out the map, turned on the dome light, and discovered I am too old to read street names at night without reading glasses -- frustrating. Wandered around some more and finally got onto 280. Next time I'll take the Garmin StreetPilot 2610, which was very handy in Palm Springs despite the minor annoyance of nattering about every turn ("turn right on Xyzzy Avenue in 1000 ft... turn right on Xyzzy Avenue in 400 ft... offroute, recalculating!")

Someone leaving town is going to make it extremely difficult for everyone.

San Jose is VERY confusing, especially in the downtown area. I hate driving there for that reason.

Next refinement to the GPS: guidance to the closest available parking space. With enough surveillance cameras and unused computation cycles, it should be a snap to set up. :)

I had told Rusty that I would be late to the meeting; I assumed you would all just start without me. But then, Scott was later than I was. Now I can't bitch about people being late.

I know who the other nominees will likely be. But I can't tell you without charging for it.

I find it difficult to navigate downtown too, mostly because there are no easy markings to enter or leave the city. Your Garmin StreetPilot 2610 was outstanding for this kind of problem. If only it used voice recognition.

As I recall, Xyzzy Avenue was a very pretty, if poorly marked.

Xyzzy Avenue and Plugh Lane....

OK, if you tell me who's running, I'll tell you all of the hot, sexually-available, intelligent men I know of. ;-)

Deal.
