A small pool party
Jul. 24th, 2006 01:57 pmSo on the second hottest day of the year, we had a small pool party in honor of my 50th birthday (which was last Wednesday, but then you're already 365.242*50 days old, a 4-day displacement is around %0.02 error, so Sunday was close enough.) Much tedious and forgotten backyard work got done Saturday to spiffen up the pool area, and we were done getting snacks set out about half an hour in advance.
People trickled in slowly, some arriving after the food was served at 3:30. The high was around 100° in the shade, and while the house was cooler, no place was sweat-free. Luckily it was a pool party, which offered relief from the heat for those who were willing to spend time wet.
It's good that we kept the guest list small, since it turned out to be on the same day and time as a popular wedding up in the city, but we did manage to lure down
rxdoc and
expurgate, who stayed all too dressed, as did
allanh and his partner Randy. People seemed to have a good time, though I wanted to strangle
erictooley for putting ice down the back of my shorts, followed by cold water. I hate surprises! Of course he only does this because he's always wanted my body, but still...!
Guest Lou Ceci regaled us with tales of the Gay Games swim meets and shower rooms after. He placed in his age category, which is an accomplishment.
We had too much food but barely enough drinks, as you'd expect when it's really hot. Everyone left by 7. It was 8 o'clock before it was really comfortable out; we spent some time at twilight enjoying the fading light, the buzzing of the hummingbirds, and the cool embrace of the pool.
Pictures have to wit until my PC is fixed.
