So on the second hottest day of the year, we had a small pool party in honor of my 50th birthday (which was last Wednesday, but then you're already 365.242*50 days old, a 4-day displacement is around %0.02 error, so Sunday was close enough.) Much tedious and forgotten backyard work got done Saturday to spiffen up the pool area, and we were done getting snacks set out about half an hour in advance.

People trickled in slowly, some arriving after the food was served at 3:30. The high was around 100° in the shade, and while the house was cooler, no place was sweat-free. Luckily it was a pool party, which offered relief from the heat for those who were willing to spend time wet.

It's good that we kept the guest list small, since it turned out to be on the same day and time as a popular wedding up in the city, but we did manage to lure down [livejournal.com profile] rxdoc and [livejournal.com profile] expurgate, who stayed all too dressed, as did [livejournal.com profile] allanh and his partner Randy. People seemed to have a good time, though I wanted to strangle [livejournal.com profile] erictooley for putting ice down the back of my shorts, followed by cold water. I hate surprises! Of course he only does this because he's always wanted my body, but still...!

Guest Lou Ceci regaled us with tales of the Gay Games swim meets and shower rooms after. He placed in his age category, which is an accomplishment.

We had too much food but barely enough drinks, as you'd expect when it's really hot. Everyone left by 7. It was 8 o'clock before it was really comfortable out; we spent some time at twilight enjoying the fading light, the buzzing of the hummingbirds, and the cool embrace of the pool.

Pictures have to wit until my PC is fixed.

I *heart* people who know that a year is 365 days plus a quarter minus a little bit, and, no, that doesn't mean it will be dark at midday in two years but it does mean that summer solstice will continue to be the longest day.

Extended leap years.

And he even knew that he should be using the tropical year (365.242 days) rather than the sidereal year (365.256 days).

Sounds like a great party. Sorry we missed it (as if we were invited). :-)

Actually I trusted in Google for that. Who needs memory anymore? [eerie music plays...]

You would have been invited if there was any chance you could make it! You're an adornment to any pool.

We really enjoyed coming. Sorry we had to scoot halfway through. Next time we'll actually take note of any references to a pool and dress accordingly.

I'm surprised you could stay that long -- it was oppressively hot even nearly naked. You could have skinny dipped... [nice present for me!]

I wouldn't have wanted to scare your other guests away.

Should you feel different? If you do, then I hope you're feeling vibrant and ready for another year ahead. If not, then we have to talk.

I can't see!

I've changed my LiveJournal handle from "pavlenyi" to "mediamutt". You might want to update your friends' list accordingly. Then I can see the (I'm sure) beootiful pics from the party.
